Shalyatantra is one of the distinct branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda and it has been rediscovered through extensive research in recent times and has emerged as the Department of General Surgery. Acharya Sushruta’s name is synonymous with general surgery.
The department provides academic/clinical inputs to the students, with the main focus to impart the understanding of principles of modern surgery along with ancient surgical procedures that are performed since thousands of years.
Students get to learn fundamentals of surgical diseases, clinical and surgical application of various treatment modalities. The study deals comprehensively about identification and use of various surgical instruments, concepts of Anaesthesia, sterilization techniques, demonstration of various surgical and para-surgical procedures. Hands on training of minimal invasive yet effective procedures help students to improve their skills and to emerge confident and competent. The department ensures overall development of students especially in terms of value education and use of technology.
Department comprises of experienced staffs in academic and surgical techniques inclusive of a well equipped museum for student training purposes.
Here we train different surgical and para surgical procedures, preparartion of kshara and ksharasutra, art of bandaging etc.
We have a well established departmental library with varieties of book titles both classical and contemporary, articles, and journals.
Dedicated to preserving and advancing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda in the modern era, Dr Santosh Kumar J, is an Ayurvedic Shalya (Surgery) Professor with extensive expertise in the intricacies of traditional surgical techniques and holistic healing methodologies. With a profound commitment to education, research, and clinical practice, his journey in Ayurveda spans over 20 years. During this period,he has had the privilege to mentor numerous students, serve as the principal in a reputed Ayurvedic college, publish research papers, and contribute significantly through his clinical practise where he has treated a broad array of patients. His academic endeavours are complemented by hands-on experience in treating a diverse range of ailments using time-tested Ayurvedic interventions and applying his skills of modern diagnostic techniques thus integrating the ancient science with contemporary healthcare needs. Passionate about fostering a new generation of Ayurvedic practitioners and furthering the global recognition of Ayurvedic Shalya, he is committed to bringing further advancements and recognition to the practise of Shalya (surgery) in the field of Ayurveda.
