Samhita & Siddhanta

Ayurveda vaidyaka shaastra is considered as Upaveda of Atharvaveda. Precise understanding of classical texts of Ayurveda is a challenging task and requires knowledge of Sanskrit. The Department of Samhita Siddhanta and Samskruta acts as the basic department imparting the knowledge and understanding of texts on Ayurveda. In this department, we deal with Sanskrit, the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, history of Ayurveda, interprets philosophical aspects (Padartha vijnana) and Samhitas like Charaka Samhita, sushrutha Samhita and astanga hridaya.

Samhita is the nodal point for the 8 branches of Ayurveda. The Department deals with the in depth study of Samhitas. Sanskrit language helps the students to understand the original Ayurvedic concepts. Accurate knowledge of samhitas helps in enhancing clinical skills there by enabling to be better practiotioners.

Other Academic Activities

  • The department of Samhita Siddhanta and Samskruta has conducted 2 major programmes in the academic year 2019-20.

  • “ Ayurvedasya bhasha samskritam patyatam” three days basic Sanskrit workshop was conducted on 21 to 23 oct 2019.

  • SUBODHINI 2020 on “Anveshana- learn to unravel the treasure” one day skill development programme was accompanied with an inter-college shloka recitation competition on 27th January 2020

  • *Celebration of World Samskruta day and Charaka Jayanti every year by conducting different brain storming activities.

Facilities

  • Sanskrit workshop – Training students with the basics of Sanskrit for the better understanding of Sanskrit language .

  • Shloka parayana – Daily

  • Well equipped library and charts for reference and studies.

  • Practical classes including patient analysis are conducted to all the batches starting from 1year BAMS.

  • Department conducts monthly class test, internal and practical examination to Students to inculcate confidence to face the university examinations. They are also encouraged to participate in various InterAyurveda College competitions like essay writing, debate, shloka recitation.

Head of the Department

She is having 10 Years of teaching experience in the subjects of Samhita Adhyayana and Padartha Vijnana. She emphasizes on developing the analytical skills of the students which helps them in conducting research in the field of Ayurveda. Students are encouraged to read and understand the proper meaning of Shlokas and interpret so that all the concepts told in classical literature are applied practically which will enhance their clinical skills as well.

Assistant Professor

She is presently working as assistant professor in the department of Samhita and Siddhanta and samskrutam. She has expertise in understanding the concept of the Samhita by decoding method (prabhashaneeya krama). Specially trained in Tantrayukti method of study of samhitas.

He is presently working as Sanskrit lecturer in the department Samhita Siddhanta & Sanskrit in Sharada Ayurveda medical college and hospital Mangaluru.
